Follow the pilgrimage steps on the Portuguese ancient routes to Santiago de Compostela. The tracks and paths go gently north along ancient routes and cross historic cities, woodlands, churches, medieval bridges, stone altars or little water courses. Admire the beautiful estuaries of Vigo and Pontevedra, enjoy the town of Caldas de Reis and discover the history of Padron and its stone treasure. Enter Santiago de Compostela's Cathedral and embrace the Saint James. Visit the historic city center of Santiago de Compostela and be enchanted by its traditions and its typical cuisine.

Daily Itinerary

Day 01
Arrival to Porto
The richness of its monumental and artistic patrimony, the Port Wine cellars, the many spots dedicated to leisure and culture are only some of the reasons that invite you to visit Porto. The hotel is located in Porto down-town, near the Douro river, in a walking distance of the famous wine cellars.

Day 02
Cycling Tour 1: Porto | Esposende | Barcelos - Ponte de Lima (33 km / 20 mi)
Before you start your route to Santiago, you will begin the day with a visit to Porto and to the Port Wine cellars. 45 min transfer to Esposende beach where you can have lunch by the Atlantic Ocean. Then you will have a transfer to Barcelos to start the biking ride towards Ponte de Lima. Once we reach the Lima River we will bike in a cycling path that follows the river up stream all the way to Ponte de Lima.

Day 03
Cycling Tour 2: Ponte de Lima - Valença (43 km / 27 mi)
From Ponte de Lima you will bike on the "Caminho Português" to Santiago, starting by crossing the amazing Romanesque-Gothic bridge over the Lima river. This route is quite challenging with some steep climbs, mainly Labruja Mountain, but also beautiful sights and landscapes. After the mountain of Labruja you can stop at Rubiães to have lunch. You will climb slightly to S. Bento da Porta Aberta church and start the great descend to Valença, where the Minho River defines the border between Portugal and Spain. This has been for centuries a passageway between the two countries and a region of some dispute.

Day 04
Cycling Tour 3: Valença - Redondela (32 km / 20 mi)
On the Spanish side, after crossing the metallic international bridge, you will find the city of Tui. Then you enter in the beautiful Louro Valley where you will pass by Ponte das Febres, a medieval bridge. You will pass by Ribadelouro and Orbenlle before entering one of the most strenuous parts of the Route: the Industrial Polygon of Porriño. When you reach Barreiras you may wish to rest for a while. You will start the descend all the way to Redondela with endless sight of the beautiful bay of Vigo.

Day 05
Cycling Tour 4: Redondela - Caldas de Reis (53 km / 33 mi)
Today's Route is long but it is mostly on flat terrain. The bike ride goes through the area of the "Rias Bajas", famous for its shellfish cuisine. The road widens through fields and vineyards towards the city of Pontevedra. Visit also the San Francisco Convent and wonder by the historic city. You will then cycle between the railway and the Gándara River in a wet zone entering the woods of Lombo da Maceira. You will see several stone crosses along the way to Caldas de Reis and pass by the lovely fountain of Tivo.

Day 06
Cycling Tour 5: Caldas de Reis - Santiago  de Compostela (43 km / 27 mi)
This will be the last section of your route to Santiago. Leaving Caldas de Reis you will enter the beautiful Bermaña valley. You will pass by several villages, such as Pontecesures with its medieval bridge of roman origin, or Padrón, with immense Xacobean tradition. You will then reach Iria Flavia, the Episcopal seat before being transferred to Santiago de Compostela. Our final destination is not too far and in Milladoiro you can spot for the first time the towers of the cathedral. The entry in the monumental area of Santiago happens through Porta Faxeira heading to the cathedral.

Day 07
Free day in Santiago / Transfer to Porto
Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and is where the ancient pilgrimage route ends. Take the day to visit the superb historic city center or just relax in some of the coffee places in the old part of the city.
In the afternoon you will have a van transfer to Porto (2h 30m).
