During the week, you will sample many different kinds of Port Wine, visit the old cellars in Porto and also discover some of the 12th Century Historical Villages of Portugal. Another highlight of this trip is the boat ride on the Douro River, which floats you close to the terraces covered with vineyards. Daily Itinerary

Day 01
Porto | Pinhão (boat ride in Douro)
Meet at the airport in Porto and van transfer to Pinhão. After a light lunch you will explore the Douro river on a small boat from which you will enjoy close-up views of the Port wine vineyards planted on terraces along the river´s shores. Back in Pinhão you can just relax by your inns outdoor pool. Quinta Nova produces high quality table wines and has a wine shop.

Day 02
Sabrosa | Quinta Nova (35 km / 22 mi)
Transfer to Sabrosa. Short ride with great views of the Port wine vineyards planted on terraces that are UNESCO World Heritage. The route is mostly downhill so you can enjoy the superb views of the Douro Valley, with the vineyards and the Douro River. You can stop at Quinta Nova after a short climb from the Douro River. Or you can also choose to continue to Pinhão (adds 15 km / 9 mi). In the afternoon you can visit the Douro Museum in Régua. Optionally you can pedal until Régua (approx. 25 km / 15 mi from Pinhão), mostly flat terrain, along the Douro River.

Day 03
Pinhão - Pocinho | Marialva (52 km / 32 mi)
Before you start spinning the pedals you will take a short trip by train to the village of Pocinho using an old railway that follows the Douro river in all its beauty. On the way to Marialva – one of Portugal´s Historical Villages - you will stop to visit the Côa Museum. Your inn has a small SPA and a beautiful outdoor swimming pool overlooking Marialva´s castle.

Day 04
Marialva loop (49 km / 30 mi)
Today you will ride on the way to the town of Trancoso, another Historical Village of Portugal. Expect some climbing but also breathtaking views, passing by Moreira de Rei with its castle. The old part of Trancoso is built inside the majestic city walls and is definitely worth a visit. On the way back pass by Souto Maior or Ribeira do Freixo and several small typical villages.

Day 05
Marialva | Castelo Rodrigo (55 km / 34 mi)
Today you will connect two Historical Villages – Marialva and Castelo Rodrigo. These two medieval walled villages will take you back in time, to when the brave inhabitants of these villages fought against the Spanish invaders.

Day 06
Castelo Rodrigo | Barca de Alva (35 km / 22 mi)
Enjoy great views of Port Wine vineyards along the bicycle route that takes you to Barca de Alva. In Barca de Alva you will have lunch on the shore of the Douro River. If don´t feel like riding you can stay home or go for a donkey ride. In the afternoon you can visit the winery were the famous Barca Velha wine is produced.

Day 07
Castelo Rodrigo | Almeida | Porto
Transfer to Porto. On the way you will stop to visit the Historical Village of Almeida. This village is one of the crown jewels of Portuguese military architecture with the hexagonal shaped walls of it´s 17th century fortress. In Porto you will visit a Port Wine cellar, where you can taste some of Portugal´s best Port wines. In the afternoon explore this exciting and unique city. Your hotel is located near the Praça da Ribeira, heart of the historical centre of Porto and UNESCO World Heritage site, with houses dating from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, which extend along the Douro River.
