Just 1 hour from Porto, one of the things you don’t want to miss out, in Northern Portugal, is to explore the  the birthplace of Port wine – with its otherworldly, ever-changing terrain sculpted by centuries of hardy farmers. Locals brag, “God made the earth, but man made the Douro”.

Get to know all about Portugal ́s unique Port Wine while biking in the historic Douro region of Portugal, the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. During the week, you will sample many different kinds of Port Wine and visit the old cellars in Porto.  The Douro landscape reflects its ancient and deep connection with the wine culture, creating an amazing picture of Man and Nature working side by side in search of the perfect wine.

Day 02
Vila Real | Pinhão (37,6 km)
Enjoy great views of Port Wine vineyards along the bicycle route that takes you to Pinhão.
On this route you will pass by the village of Sabrosa. Fernão de Magalhães (Ferdinand
Magellan) was born there in 1480. One ship of his "eet of #ve (commanded by the Basque Juan Sebastián de Elcano) was the #rst to circumnavigate the globe between 1519 and 1522.
Pinhão is located at the con"uence of the Douro and Pinhão river’s. This small town is the epicentre of the Port winemaking area, and a place where the soil and climatic conditions are considered to be at their very best.
Although a sleepy town for most of the year, Pinhão bursts into life in autumn during the annual grape harvest, attracting pickers from all over the country.

Day 03
Pinhão | Penajóia (39,5 km)
Today you will ride all day along the Douro river.
The route passes by some of the most important wine farms of the region. Quinta do Seixo is one of them. This farm is located just outside Pinhão and produces Sandeman port wine. You will see the advertising of the man dressed like the Spanish caballeros de Jerez in a Portuguese student’s cape and wide-brimmed hat, the Don cuts a dark, dramatic #gure with his glass of ruby coloured Porto.

Day 04
Penajóia | Anreade (22,8 km)
Today’s ride will take you again along the Douro river with spectacular views over the valley. You will ride in higher roads on the slopes of the river.

Day 05
Anreade | Porto Antigo (20,6 km)
Again riding along the river, today you will pass by Caldas de Aregos thermal stations that attract many people since the 12th century for the unique value of its waters. Famous for their healing properties, Queen D. Mafalda ordered the construction of a guest house next to the thermal stations in 1102. These were the #rst of a series of thermal stations built here. Your #nal destination is Quinta da Ventuzela, a Manor House from the mid 17th century. It imposes its majestic presence over the Douro Valley, in a lovely region of unique characteristics and unique beauty. The Quinta was completely renovated in order to regain and invigorate all of the normal functions of a traditional Quinta of the Douro region, creating a symbiosis between tradition and modernity.

Day 06
Quinta da Ventuzela | Entre-os-Rios (20,6 km)
On today’s ride you will cross the river to the north bank passing by the Carrapetelo dam. After the dam, there is a hard climb all the way to Penha Longa. From here the route gets easier and passes by Entre-os-Rios (“in between the rivers”). This small village is located on the con"uence of the rivers Tâmega and Douro

Day 07
Entre-os-Rios | Porto (38,2 km)
Today will be the last cycling day. Porto is our #nal destination. This gracious capital of the north is Portugal’s second largest city and a thriving industrial hub, successfully blending commercial e$ciency with an atmosphere of unpretentious charm. Rich from centuries of trade, modern Porto is as much a cosmopolitan centre as it is a city steeped in the historical events of the past.
Magni#cently situated on the great gorge of the River Douro, which spills into the Atlantic after its scenic 927 km journey from Spain, the ‘granite city’ is best known for its striking bridges and the much celebrated Port wine, which is stored and savoured by wine lovers all over the world.
